SS26 / THE SECOND DAWN
Hong Kong-based designer Matt Hui debuts his eponymous label with a collection that redefines the essential wardrobe — trans-seasonal, versatile, and deeply personal. Rooted in the designer’s fascination with human connection, the collection explores how clothing can enhance individuality and evoke shared memories through thoughtful design and refined craftsmanship.
The debut collection is conceived as a series of essential garments that seamlessly transition between daily wear and formal occasions. Each piece invites reinterpretation — mix and match, dress up or down — reflecting a balance of style and comfort that feels relaxed but not casual, refined but never pretentious.
Drawing inspiration from old family photo albums and childhood drawings, the collection captures the warmth of nostalgia through modern tailoring. Vertical stripes appear across T-shirts, shirts, and shirt jackets, while textured knits and accessories reveal playful contrasts, from furry diamond jacquards to inside-out stripe patterns. Echoing memories of a mother’s handknit, pieces such as bow-tie scarves and beanies recall the innocence and intimacy of school days.
Matt reimagines wardrobe staples through innovative pattern cutting and proportion play, introducing slightly cropped silhouettes and a one-size-for-all philosophy that emphasizes personality over gender. Every garment reveals subtle details upon closer look, inviting wearers to discover the depth of its workmanship, material, and emotional resonance.
This collection is about people, the relationship between humans and clothing. Through these pieces, Matt hopes to connect with different lives and personalities. The clothes are meant to be lived in: practical, comfortable, yet full of character. At first glance, they may seem simple, but with time, you’ll notice the details including the care, the process, the quiet charm that unfolds slowly.
